How To Meditate In One Minute (really!)

You know those moments you sometimes have when you really, intuitively, can hear your body, mind or soul telling you softly (yet persistently) that you need to do a certain something?

meditate

Well, lately I’ve been having those moments. Frequently. In these moments my inner wisdom has been gently urging me to start meditating daily again…and I know why.

My mind needs to rest. I need to look within for answers. My body needs to relax.

So, last week I set myself an intention to meditate each morning or afternoon for 15 minutes, and some of you in my Facebook community joined me. Today is now my 9th day and I kid you not, I’m already feeling the benefits. I’m beginning to feel more capable of tasks, less stressed, and more relaxed in general. I also really look forward to this time, as it’s ‘my time’ to look within, connect my mind with my body and peace out. I can’t wait to see what futher changes I experience a couple of months down the track.

To begin with, I’ve been listening to a guided meditation. I find this is a great way to get started with a meditation practice as you simply follow the instructions that has super calming music in the background. This is helpful for newbies, as although you’ll still have thoughts pop up, you can gently bring your focus back to the guided meditation.

There’s loads of guided meditations available online to download, and I highly recommend the Headspace app. I’ve also written about a brilliant 30 minute meditation I was lucky enough to have participated in, that was guided by Deepak Chopra! This type of meditation begins the process of healing through synchronicity and activates different parts of the brain. A little bit longer, but a fantastic meditation to work towards!

To get started with a shorter practice, you might like to watch this video below. It demonstrates how you can begin a meditation practice for only 1 minute! You can keep going of course, but what I love about this video is it really shows how simple it can be.

Your challenge!

If you’re new to meditating, start with just 10 minutes a day. Then build this up to 20 minutes or even split it up to a morning and afternoon practice. I’m working towards 20 minutes twice a day ๐Ÿ™‚

Do you recommend a guided meditation for newbies to begin with, or a mindfulness meditation? I’d love to hear from you, leave a comment below.
