Tell us three things about yourself

  • I was a chef and restauranteur by trade for over 20 years before becoming a personal trainer
  • I like going to the gym
  • I love sports!

What’s been the biggest health challenge you’ve overcome and what did you learn from this experience?

I’ve never really had one – I’m lucky I guess.

What’s your top tip for getting your day off to a great start?

Getting a good amount of sleep and having a great breakfast right after I get up

Your brekky usually consist of…

Steak, eggs, avocado

Which foods do you eat to nourish your body and give you vitality?

I eat anything I want to be honest, I stay lean by having clean foods at my meals but I let myself eat any treats I want as well; that way I never really want a lot.

I do love red meat and salad.

Why is fitness an important part of your life?

Mainly because I enjoy doing it – it makes me feel good to workout, helps me to be a happier person and I like being in shape.

What is your current exercise routine?

I train 4-5 x a week, 1-2 body parts per workout, 45 minutes max. No cardio. You will never see me running!

What business or career challenge have you overcome and what one piece of advice would you like to pass on to others?

Being in hospitality for 25 years and owning several restaurants I overcame a lot, probably too much to go into. My biggest piece of advice is to choose a career that you’ll look forward to getting up each day for, and if you stop enjoying it find a way.

Your favourite book or movie of all time is? And why?

Book: Arnie’s recent biography – it was very inspiring.

Movie: Choosing one is too hard, but I do love the Bourne movies.

And lastly, do you have a recipe you’d like to share with us?

Sure, this is a recent one I came up with using my own brand of Lean Chef protein powder. It’s a winner already at our house.

Choc-peanut protein bars

Ingredients:

  • 4 egg whites
  • Half cup oatmeal
  • Half cup milk
  • 2 scoops choc peanut butter Lean Chef protein powder (or plain chocolate)
  • 1 tsp each of cinnamon, glutamine, baking powder, almond butter (leave glutamine out if you like)
  • 2 tblsp of organic greens or reds powder
  • 2 tblsp coconut flour
  • 3 tblsp organic peanut butter
  • Pinch sea salt

Method:

Preheat oven to 180 celsius. Blend oats until they are flour like, then add egg whites (slightly beaten). Stir in the rest of the ingredients except peanut butter, mix until moist.

Heat up peanut butter just enough so you can pour it. Place mix in a tray then pour peanut butter down the middle – using the point of a knife draw a swirl.

Bake for 10-15 minutes then allow to cool. Cut and individually wrap and store in fridge. You can freeze them if they last!
