A Snapshot In The Life Of…Maddison Vernon (soulful blogger + coach)

 Maddison Vernon

My name is Maddison I am a lover of all things yoga, cooking, nail polish and I am a recovering perfectionist. I used to suffer from analysis paralysis, I got so caught up in the little things that I was unable to move forward from fear of making the wrong choice. I now help women just like you let go of their expectations they place on themselves and help them reach their dream life quicker in the process. Why not come over and say hi at Maddison Vernon. You can also connect with me on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram 🙂

Tell us three things about yourself

  • I love creating nourishing meals, I take my time when I create my breakfast and lunch, I love chopping up my vegetables mindfully choosing each one and creating a delicious meal.
  • I adore volunteering, I spend a chunk of my time volunteering for a not for profit organization and I love feeling like I am giving back to the community and seeing the real difference I can make. It is great for my soul.
  • I can speak Japanese I had studied it for most of my adult life and I have always loved being able to write and understand a completely foreign alphabet that to someone else looks like random squiggles and pictures. That’s pretty cool.

What’s been the biggest health challenge you’ve overcome and what did you learn from this experience?

Honestly, my biggest health challenges that I have faced are mental health ones, inner demons, anxiety, stress and a serious case of overwhelm. I have first hand discovered that my mental health is closely linked to my outer health of what I feed myself and how I choose to move my body.

When I eat healthy foods and exercise I am nourishing myself in the best possible way and from that I am able to feel the best about my internal self.

What’s your top tip for getting your day off to a great start?

I have a few! Stay off your mobile phone once you wake up – it adds too much stress and angst to your morning.

Eat a nourishing filling breakfast.

Start your day with an intention; if you wake up and roll out of bed you are far more reactive to the day. Yet if you set an intention for your day you are able to flow through the day with a purpose and remain grounded in that purpose.

Your brekky usually consists of…

I create the biggest breakfast possible! I am a huge fan of eggs, so will have some form of eggs on toast with avocado and salmon if I have lots of time, or a veggie omelet.

If I am not in the mood for such a big breakfast, I enjoy a freshly made juice. At the moment I am loving beetroot, apple, lemon and a heap of spinach.

Which foods do you eat to nourish your body and give you vitality?

I have grown up being such a fussy eater, such a bad habit! I am also such a big person on the texture of foods and often dislike vegetables that are boiled. It either has to be cooked in a soup of some kind or raw for me.

I am doing pretty well at overcoming this fussiness and have certainly included more fruits and vegetables and other foods into my diet within the last couple of years. I subscribe to eating the rainbow, when I see a whole heap of different colors in my meal I feel healthy and that I am adding good nutrients to my body.

I also ensure I mainly eat natural foods, no processed or packaged foods, or I limit this when possible.

Why is fitness an important part of your life and do you have an exercise routine?

Fitness is such an important part of my life, I love it and it is so important for that beautiful endorphin rush. I have to keep myself entertained when exercising. Along with a combination of hardcore exercise which I love and the relaxing mindful practices I need.

I adore barre body and attend that once a week and yoga twice a week. I am in the process of setting up a running routine. And I adore doing anything else fit and active with my boyfriend like a bike ride into the city or a weights session with him.

Your ‘perfect day’ in a nutshell would be…

My perfect day in a nutshell is all about connection, being of service to others and adding a whole heap of play into my life. So this means waking up and going about my morning routine, one that I am in the middle of creating a sacred space for, to journal, overcome limiting beliefs, and to set my intention for the day.

I’d then create a nourishing breakfast for myself and get ready for the day. When I say get ready for the day, if I have outings to do or even if I feel like it this could be curling my hair, putting on my best skirt, accessories and make up, anything to make myself look and feel beautiful. This is not in a vain way at all, trust me I could live in my PJ’s if I wanted to, but PJ’s does not make you feel sexy or playful!

I would get to work writing and creating programs for young women to help them reach their big goals within life to inspire and motivate them to reach their passion. I would stop to create lunch again followed by an afternoon outing. This could be getting my nails done, catching up with friends, a walk around, followed by unwinding at night time with some yoga or barre body.

The semantics aren’t as important as how I want to feel throughout my perfect day, and to me it is all about connection, worthiness, and play.

Describe what motivated you to choose your current business or career path?

After this amazing online world unfolded before my eyes, from starting my own blog and seeing what was possible it was as if this was my destiny all along. I have such a deep passion for helping and connecting with other people and constantly learning.

People often believe I would make a great teacher, and I like the idea, but personally I crave more flexibility, I want to teach people who are eager to listen to what I have to say.

So I chose the unconventional, which can be difficult at times, but I adore it so much and wouldn’t want to be doing anything or building anything different in my life.

What business or career challenge have you overcome and what one piece of advice would you like to pass on to others?

I think my major business or career challenges that I have overcome have all been those internal demons, thinking I can’t do it because I don’t know enough, I am far too young, I won’t be taken seriously etc. etc. The way I overcome them is through doing my own work through those limiting beliefs while starting before I’m ‘ready’.

There is always another book to read, a principle to apply, a header to tweak etc. The main focus is that you need to start before you are ready and the rest will catch up and fall in line.

Your favorite book or movie of all time is? And why?

Oh my golly gosh! Yes sometimes I say the oldest catch phrases of all time, I am such an old soul at heart, but your question has completely stumped me. I am an avid learner and lover of books, my mother is a writer – is it any wonder that I would eventually become one too?! To decide a favorite book is so difficult, but I’d have to say The Power of Habit. It’s such an interesting read, full of interesting stories about how everything we do is a habit and how you can change your life by changing your habits. Powerful stuff.

And lastly, do you have a recipe you’d like to share with us?
